impossible soul

Oh, woman, tell me what you want
And I'll calm down without bleeding out
With a broken heart that you stabbed for an hour
Woman, I was freaking out because I want you to know
My beloved, you are the lover of my impossible soul

Woman, too, promise me you'll stay and put off all your woes
I was wigging out, too much worry
I could not get you at all
And you said what you want, you would laugh it off
But I know you won't go, not for it at last
Must you write it off for the impossible soul?
And I was in a dream, I was gone away without you, but not too slow
Lest I put it off, for I put it right for the impossible soul

And all I couldn't sing, I would say it all, my life, to you
If I could get you at all
Don't be a wreck, trying to be something that I wasn't at all

Seems I got it wrong, I was chasing after something that was gone
To the black of night, now I know it's not what I wanted at all
And you said something like, "All you want is all the world for yourself"
But all I want is the perfect love
Though I know it's small, I want love for us all

And all I couldn't sing, I would say it all, my life, to you
If I could get you at all
Trying to be something that I wasn't at all

Do you want to be afraid?
Do you want to be afraid?
For life in the cage where courage's mate runs deep in the wake
For the scariest things are not half as enslaved

Don't be distracted, don't be distracted
Do you want to be alone?
Do you want to be alone?
For life isn't stained of righteousness pain
The seed and the hail, all impossible flights for an interesting light

Don't be distracted, don't be distracted
Do you want to love me more?
Do you want to love me more?
For love is the breath
If water and wave is cursed by the same thing that nurtured its shame
Is it worth all the work?

Don't be distracted, don't be distracted
Have you failed to feel delight? (No, I don't want to feel pain)
Have you failed to feel delight? (No, I don't want to feel pain)
Instead of the life, lived tired and lost, have you left it at last
Where it floundered its death with the language of ghosts

Don't be distracted, don't be distracted
Do you want to be afraid? (No, I don't want to feel pain)
Do you want to be afraid? (No, I don't want to feel pain)
For life in the cage where where courage's mate runs deep in the wake
For the scariest things are not half as enslaved

Don't be distracted, don't be distracted

No . . . don't be distracted

Stupid man in the window, I couldn't be at rest
All my delight, all that mattered, I couldn't be at rest
From what I liked, from what I gathered, I couldn't be at rest
Stupid man in the window, I couldn't be at rest

And don't be shy in the window
Come down and give your best
Oh, delight in the window I couldn't be at rest
Stupid man in the window, I couldn't be at rest
From what I liked, from what I gathered, I couldn't give my best

Oh, I know it wasn't safe, it wasn't safe to breathe at all
Oh, I know it wasn't safe, it wasn't safe to breathe at all
Oh, I know it wasn't safe, it wasn't safe to breathe at all
Oh, I know it wasn't safe, it wasn't safe to speak at all

It's a long life, better pinch yourself,
Put your face together, better get it right
It's a long life, better hit yourself
Put your face together, better stand up straight
It's a long life, only one last chance
Couldn't get much better, do you wanna dance?
It's a long life, better pinch yourself
Get your face together, better stand up straight

Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get it right, get it right, get it right, get it right)
Boy, we can do much more together
(Better give love, give love, give love, give love)
Boy, we can do much more together,
(better get it right, get it right get it right, get it right)
Boy, we can do much more together it's not so impossible
It's not so impossible

It's a long life, better pinch yourself
Get your face together, better roll along
It's a long life, better pinch yourself
Put your face together, better stand up straight
It's a long life only one last chance
Couldn't get much better, do you wanna dance?
It's a good life, better pinch yourself
Is it impossible? Is it impossible?
Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get it right, get it right, get it right, get it right)
Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get a life, get a life, get a life, get a life)
Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get it right, get it right, get it right, get it right)
Boy we can do much more together, it's not so impossible
It's not so impossible

It's a long life, better pinch yourself
Put your face together, better get it right
It's a long life, better hit yourself
Put your face together, better stand up straight
In the wrong life, everything is chance
Does it register? Do you wanna dance?
In the right life, it's a miracle
Possibility, do you wanna dance?

Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get it right, get it right, get it right, get it right)
Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get a life, get a life, get a life, get a life)
Boy, we can do much more together
(Better get it right, get it right, get it right, get it right)
Boy, we can do much more together
It's not so impossible

Do you want to dance?

Boy, we can do much more together
It's not so impossible

(5)
I never meant to cause you pain
My burden is the weight of a feather
I never meant to lead you on
I only meant to please me, however

And then you tell me, boy, we can do much more
Boy, we can do much more
Boy, we can do much more together
Boy, we can do much more together

I'm nothing but a selfish man
I'm nothing but a privileged peddler
And did you think I'd stay the night?
And did you think I'd love you forever?
And then you tell me, boy, we can do much more

I got to tell you, girl, I want nothing less
Girl, I want nothing less
Girl, I want nothing less than pleasure
Girl, I want nothing less than pleasure

I got to tell you, boy, we made such a mess
Boy, we made such a mess
Boy, we made such a mess together
Boy, we made such a mess together

goodbye oprah

today was the last oprah winfrey show. no guests, no car giveaways, just oprah talking, preaching, and reliving a couple golden moments (and outfits). it was a nice change of pace today and i was surprised she kept it together so well. it was a little disappointing she didn't give people in the audience an island or something comically large, but i think she's really just done with that. goodbye oprah, i will miss you on those rare days i am home at 4pm on a week day afternoon.

fitness inspiration: heather morris

one of my favourite gleeks is on the cover of women's health and she looks A-MAY-ZING! she has become my current fitness inspiration. i read heather was a back-up dancer for beyonce for almost two years! no wonder she is such a crazy good dancer.  too bad lord tubbington didn't make it onto the cover too.

new york new york: gleeeeee finale

oh glee. rachel and finn are once more, quinn got a hair cut, kurt and blaine, or klaine if you will, love each other, santana and brittany are still.... whatever, and mercedes and giant lips are dating, secretly. the music was good, although maybe a little TOO broadway, but when in rome i suppose. one complaint however is that glee is so predictable at times. so they didn't win nationals this year, and the didn't win regionals the year before, so obviously if we follow the next logical progression, next season they will likely win, or place well, at nationals. also, mr. schu, why aren't you going to broadway? it's during the summer, your time off, and has nothing to do with your kids. live your dream but just be back for september. maybe sue is right and his hair product is evil... and possibly affecting his mind.

i love jillian michaels (but i also kind of hate her)

jillian michaels is a work out goddess. i love her fitness dvds, especially the 30 day shred, which i currently doing every single day. i'm also an obsessive biggest loser fan (i choose to watch biggest loser during the 8 pm timeslot and watch glee instead online afterwards). but i was pretty late to the party. this past season was the first i ever watched fully. my brother has been into the show since it's inception and has always bugged me to watch it and now that i do we fight over contestants and who is the most impressive. i was blown away with hannah and olivia, i love those girls! big congrats to olivia for becoming the biggest loser, and to her husband who has lost over 100 pounds himself.

if you haven't tried the jillian michaels dvds, try them! you will sweat, pant, tell jillian you hate her, but you will get amazing results. i love 20 minute workouts because 20 minutes is usually all i have to give. jillian is giving me abs for the first time in my life and i love her for it!

models off duty

i am LOVING all things to do with models off duty. the photos are of models in their sloppy, and not so sloppy, day wear, post show wear, and gym wear are just so fun to oogle, plus they make amazing inspiration every time i work out. coco rocha is my favourite, but any long leg beauty will do. also, isn't karlie kloss just way too stylish?

love is always in fashion

you are the trip I did not take
you are the pearls I could not buy
you are my blue italian lake
you are my piece of foreign sky
you are my honolulu moon
you are the book I did not write,
you are my heart's unuttered tune
you are a candle in my night
you are the flower beneath the snow
in my dark sky a bit of blue
answering disappointment's blow with
i am happy
i have you

The Dying Art of the Print Catalogue

I love technology and everything it has given me, including my flat screen TV, my Blackberry, my iPod Touch 2nd gen. and net-a-porter, but there comes a point when I cling to things that are still substantial, like my second hand books, my vast collection of movies, and my love of print catalogs. Print catalogs in particular restore a certain nostalgia in me, like the Sears catalogs, and especially the Wish Book. Every Christmas I would mark out the toys, clothes and shoes I would like for Christmas and my mother would order them (well, some of them).

We lived in a rural community of less than 200 people and so I spent the first 18 years of my life ordering clothes out of a catalog and relishing the occasional trip to the mall, where I would stock up on Campus Crew clothing. I have lived at home with my parents on and off since I was 18. Since January when I moved to Ottawa, I have been feeling increasing tinges of home sickness and they culminated today in my ordering of about ten different print catalogs from stores like Sears, J Crew and LL Bean. And this led me to realize how few stores offer print catalogs now as compared to my youth. Yes, we can online shop to our hearts content but how nice does it feel to flip through a glossy catalog and scope out trends, deals if you order before a certain time, and badly posed catalog models?

I'm eagerly waiting the arrival of the catalogs so I can battle homesick feelings with style.

Support Japan

In light of the recent tragedy in Japan, Kate Spade is launching a special edition tote, with proceeds going towards relief in Japan. Kate Spade has many, many stores in Japan, and is one of many companies, including Gap Inc, that are showing their compassion for the people affected in Japan. The tote will be up on the website tomorrow, I think I may call to try to pre-order it today. Living in Canada is such a pain sometimes because shipping isn't available online from KSNY to Canadians, rather we have to call and make a special arrangement with Kate Spade.

Mad About Rainboots

Rain boots, wellies, duckies... whatever you like to call them are a recent obsession of mine. Everyone seems to be wearing them lately, in bright colours and patterns, classic Hunters and Wal-Mart cheapies. Even the over 40's are getting in on the trend which I love, rain boots aren't just for the young girls anymore! The season for wellies is upon us, thanks to the above zero weather and all the melting snow, and wellies are a perfect option to save your winter boots from water damage. I personally favour the classic Hunter boots, they're timeless, comfortable, and made in tons of colours and styles, including short, tall and Hunteress for those girls who have bigger calves.

I also have a soft spot for Tretorn boots, which like Hunters come in tons of colours. Tretorns may be a shorter boot but many of them come already insulated, unlike Hunters, and have a fur or fleece lining, making them perfect for the slushy winters of Ottawa.

Lindsay Lohan Court Fashion

Here's a look at Lindsay Lohan's fashion parade at recent court dates (recent... as in the last couple of years). She has good style and some expensive shades, now only if she could find real occasions to show these outfits off, rather than court mandated appearances. Oh Lilo, you are such a charmer.

Matthew Williamson Capsule Collection

Remember when I blogged a little while back about my favourite capsule collections for Target and H&M (like Rodarte and Lanvin and Matthew Williamson) and how I wished Matthew Williamson would do a H&M round 2 capsule collection? Well he is doing another collection, but this time with Macy's! I could not be more excited as Macy's is quite accessible since it is just over the border! The collection is meant to target a younger crowd, featuring the bold prints and pops of colour we know and love from Matthew Williamson. Ah affordable luxury, how I love you. Oh and by the way... Karl Lagerfeld himself is designing the next capsule for Macy's. I cannot wait for a date to be released so I can plan a shopping trip stateside!

John Galliano Update

The situation has moved from bad to worse for Galliano. After a video leaked of an earlier anti-Semitic rant where he said he 'loved Hitler' and some other hurtful things towards the Jewish people, Dior has fired him and is now searching for a new creative director. Truthfully, I feel quite bad for the House of Dior. Natalie Portman, a proudly Jewish actress has distanced herself publicly from both Galliano and Dior, and denied the Dior dress she was meant to wear for the Oscars (and instead chose a wonderful Rodarte dress, which I think keeps the theme of 'Black Swan' much better anyway). Dior lost millions of dollars of advertising in that moment which is a jagged pill.

So the question remains... who will replace Galliano? Hedi Slimane? I think not. YSL has locked that deal down. Haider Ackermann? Maybe. I think, as does the Sart, that there may be a fashion world reshuffling to accommodate Dior. LMVH family is a very powerful one so we shall see. Nothing could be worse than when we saw Emmauel Alt take over for Carine Roitfeld at Paris Vogue, the tension at Vogue must be tantamount.

Giveaway Winner

Sorry I have been a little late in posting this, things have been a little hectic lately in my life. Anyway, the random number generator has spoken and the winning is post number two. The winner will be messaged and I will post the package this week! Thanks for everyone who entered the giveaway and I will make sure to hold another one soon, this time with a summer theme and some of my favourite summer products!

John Galliano

Yes this. By now we've all heard about Galliano, whether you read the BBC, Perez or the Sart. Assault and anti-Semitic slurs against an asian couple, resulting in his arrest have led to his suspension from the house of Dior. Was it the right decision? Yes. Emphatically so. YES. Whether he did or he didn't is irrelevant. He WAS arrested. There is an investigation. Pending inquires, he has been suspended, just like he would at any other job in the corporate world. He was not fired. He is merely on a PAID suspension. Sounds like the perfect time to go to the Riveria or Le Pinet to me.

The real question I think is whether Kate Moss will stick with him as her wedding dress designer... and also is this is all an elaborate way to push him out the house he helped to revive? I think yes and yes. Never fear, I'm sure he will land on his feet at some couturier.

NYC Fashion Week

Up until now I have been very lazy and haven't blogged about fashion week but I'm going to break down and write a little bit about the highlights, mostly because it's Michael Kors' 30th anniversary and to ignore this event compounded with fashion week would be a bit of an oversight on a Michael Kors lovers blog.

Shows I've loved for the Fall '11 have included Michael Kors, Elie Tahari (who has broken out a bit and made a dark, romantic, moody collection), Monique Lhuillier, and Marc Jacobs. None of these choices are surprising for me because these are all houses within my fashion 'wheel house' if you will, but I had a very hard time adjusting to MJ's collection. It's a real departure from some of his previous lighter collections and I think is becoming very couture, almost like Louis Vuitton has invaded the label a bit TOO much.

My Reading Week

I'm home in London during reading week, which my boyfriend has off from school, and I booked off from work. It's a little strange not being in school and being stressed out over reading week. In fact, I spent my entire weekend traveling and celebrating my dear friend's 23rd birthday, Michelle of Michelle My Belle. We had a wonderful time catching up with our friends, who we really miss now that we are in Ottawa. It's hard to replace friends this wonderful.

I'm planning on spending my reading week exploring a newish author (newer than Jane Austen at least), Margery Allingham. I'm also finishing up Pride and Prejudice, as well as Christie's Death in the Air, which I began reading on a whim in the car. I also took out a book about upper west side witches, which I think will be my first foray into the supernatural since Harry Potter. I can't bring myself to read Twilight or watch True Blood. Vampires just don't do it for me.
