John Galliano

Yes this. By now we've all heard about Galliano, whether you read the BBC, Perez or the Sart. Assault and anti-Semitic slurs against an asian couple, resulting in his arrest have led to his suspension from the house of Dior. Was it the right decision? Yes. Emphatically so. YES. Whether he did or he didn't is irrelevant. He WAS arrested. There is an investigation. Pending inquires, he has been suspended, just like he would at any other job in the corporate world. He was not fired. He is merely on a PAID suspension. Sounds like the perfect time to go to the Riveria or Le Pinet to me.

The real question I think is whether Kate Moss will stick with him as her wedding dress designer... and also is this is all an elaborate way to push him out the house he helped to revive? I think yes and yes. Never fear, I'm sure he will land on his feet at some couturier.

NYC Fashion Week

Up until now I have been very lazy and haven't blogged about fashion week but I'm going to break down and write a little bit about the highlights, mostly because it's Michael Kors' 30th anniversary and to ignore this event compounded with fashion week would be a bit of an oversight on a Michael Kors lovers blog.

Shows I've loved for the Fall '11 have included Michael Kors, Elie Tahari (who has broken out a bit and made a dark, romantic, moody collection), Monique Lhuillier, and Marc Jacobs. None of these choices are surprising for me because these are all houses within my fashion 'wheel house' if you will, but I had a very hard time adjusting to MJ's collection. It's a real departure from some of his previous lighter collections and I think is becoming very couture, almost like Louis Vuitton has invaded the label a bit TOO much.

My Reading Week

I'm home in London during reading week, which my boyfriend has off from school, and I booked off from work. It's a little strange not being in school and being stressed out over reading week. In fact, I spent my entire weekend traveling and celebrating my dear friend's 23rd birthday, Michelle of Michelle My Belle. We had a wonderful time catching up with our friends, who we really miss now that we are in Ottawa. It's hard to replace friends this wonderful.

I'm planning on spending my reading week exploring a newish author (newer than Jane Austen at least), Margery Allingham. I'm also finishing up Pride and Prejudice, as well as Christie's Death in the Air, which I began reading on a whim in the car. I also took out a book about upper west side witches, which I think will be my first foray into the supernatural since Harry Potter. I can't bring myself to read Twilight or watch True Blood. Vampires just don't do it for me.

Daily Bread: Dress Up

Just using this extra time to figure out an outfit or two for this weekend. Also, note to self I must find a white wall to take photos against (and a way to get my shoes into the pictures) ... but tonight I'm just too lazy.

Top: Talula lace tee
Pants: Gap Really Skinny Black Trouser
Shoes: Colour Block Colour Nine West
Watch: Swatch

Recent Purchases

Today I went for a tiny shopping spree at Aritzia, albeit accidentally. I received a call a few days ago that a dress I had ordered had come in and I've been putting off going downtown for almost a week, mostly to control my shopping urges. However, once I arrived it became apparent the wrong dress had been ordered and I was left to exchange it, which I happily did... for several things.

First thing I picked up is the Talula Betsy Blouse in a pink creme colour, aptly called 'darling'. I think I might wear this shirt with leather leggings and maybe a over sized black blazer... or even a tight mini and keep the shirt untucked. Decisions, decisions...

I also picked up a couple cropped tanks that sold out too quickly for me last summer, they'll be perfect to wear with crops and shorts this summer around the pool. I love the rose print, it has been allover recently, especially I've noticed on Asos. They're also from Aritzia, from the Talula line, called the Drew tank in Rosie. I picked up the white tank and the light purple one, but am considering going back for this turquoise version as well.

Stay tuned Monday night to see what I buy when I pop over to the States for a little retail therapy while I'm home on break. My parents will be shopping with me, which will mean they will chime in on the buying and get me a bunch of things ...  or severely limit the things I buy as I 'm supposed to be saving for law school in September. Oh the humanity!

Black Nail Polish

Anyone seem to notice that lately black nail polish is creeping back into high fashion? I'm also seeing variations of the black nail, in charcoal and ash shades, the 'not quite black black nail' polish. Today I'm painting my nails in preparation for the weekend, in Nicole by OPI's Drama in the Dark.

Valentine's Day

My boyfriend, who is arguably the sweetest man alive, made Valentine's day even sweeter this year, gifting me with a Michael Kors wallet, the Jet Set Zip Around Continental in glazed snakeskin black. Swooooon. Hope you had a memorable Valentine's Day readers!

Waiting for Me

I'm dying to go back home to London because a little package was delivered from Kate Spade New York. A Mercer Debra Street planner is awaiting my return, to be filled with notes and dates and lovingly toted around in my Michael Kors purse, along with my new Michael Kors wallet. Could my life be any sweeter?
